Dave (the big guy) Frye, 6' 5" 320lbs., is originally from Mulberry, Indiana a small town halfway between Frankfort and Lafayette. He currently lives outside of Avon, Indiana; a suburb of Indianapolis, and has also lived in Lafayette, Indiana. He has been playing the 5-string banjo for 30 plus years and would rather not tell the exact amount of years for fear of giving away his true age. In the mid to late 70's he started and played professionally with his first band, the progressive bluegrass band "Rawhide" and played with that band until around 1984. Dave has played on stage with talents such as Nashville recording artist Alison Krauss, and Nashville studio artist Andrea Zonn both before they were "discovered" along with numerous others. Dave's mentors and influences include Bela Fleck, Tony Trishka, Earl Scruggs, J.D. Crowe, and John Hickman. Dave likes to play everything from traditional bluegrass to the more modern Newgrass, Jamgrass, and New Acoustical music. Dave also likes everything from Country to Heavy Metal to Jazz to Blues, and doesn't mind dipping his toes into other areas of music as well, he's game for anything.
